Excuse me... you have a little something on your face.

"He was mad. I mean, he was mad. That wasn’t in the script. He wasn’t expecting that. I turned around and I had a laugh, and said to myself, “Gee, that was wonderful. That was absolutely wonderful!”

- Marcel Vercoutere on Jason Miller’s reaction to the infamous vomit-in-the-face shot.

HA!

First Look at Marvel's THOR!!!

Y'know, I never was a really big Thor fan. Never cared much for the Norse mythology, didn't like the way he talked, and I always felt like he was a Scandanavian Superman ripoff. It wasn't until I picked up a few old copies of the original Lee-Kirby run, that I finally gained an appreciation for the Thunder God. While Thor is far from my favorite character, I certainly have enjoyed discovering those great, old stories!

When I heard that they were developing Thor into a film, I was excited and skeptical at the same time. I heard all of the complaints regarding the costume and the casting, but you know what? There will always be haters, no matter how good something is. Anytime, and especially in the comic community, when you take a long-established and much loved character and bring it to the screen, you are inevitably gonna have a huge portion of comic-book purists who turn their nose up at it. And sometimes, it's really hard to drown out all of those voices and keep an open mind while viewing the finished product.

I'll be the first to admit that I would not make a good critic of ANYTHING - simply because I'm very easy to please and to entertain. I don't know what that says about the level of my sophisitication regarding my tastes, but it's who I am. That being said, I think the movie looks very good. I absolutely love Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman. I like the costume, but I hope he keeps his helmet on for more than five minutes through the film. I'm not sure how I feel about Thor being portrayed as such an arrogant jerk in the trailer, but I'm keeping an open mind. I really like the whole "S.H.EI.L.D. angle, and how it harkens back to the original "Ultimates" run, and I love, love, love the look and feel of the Destroyer.

Bottom line is, I will definitely be there on opening weekend, and I can't wait to see more footage as it comes out!

I Heard That She's Nude Quite a Bit in That "Love & Drugs Movie"

I may have to re-think my stance on seeing that drivel.

Crank It Up, YO!

This is seriously one of the most bad-ass songs ever written! This is what they play when I'm walking into the club ever-so-slowly. Seriously.

I'd Give My Right Arm For One of These!

I know, that was horrible.
But this prosthetic tentacle arm is so freakin' cool!!! I'd have to seriously mod mine out with a blue or green synthetic sleeve of Octopus skin with tentacles an' everything just to freak out the locals!

I Don't Really Know Why, But I really Want This!

It was a banner day in the Bru house when the new Archie McPhee catalog arrived! Among the wonderous items on the pages within was this Horse Head Mask. I really, really want this mask!! I really don't know why or what I would do with it, but I just feel compelled to own it. If anyone wants to surprise me for Christmas this year, you can order it here.

This is Just Amazing to Me....

The new Tron: Legacy film features 61 year-old actor Jeff Bridges playing Kevin Flynn at his natural age, as well as Clu; the computer program he created in the first film that resembles the actor as he looked around 1982 - the first film's release year. I will never cease to be blown away by these types of advances in CGI technology! And I've said it once, but I'll say it again - one day you will see deceased actors return to the screen in starring roles using this technology within the next ten years. Just wait... you'll see. Read the whole story on how Jeff Bridges found the virtual fountain of youth here!

OH, THE HORROR!!!

Employees and two patrons were stranded at Lion Inn in North Yorkshire, England due to heavy snow. The inn is also a bed-and-breakfast, equipped with plenty of food, telephone and internet service, and alcohol. Those poor people! Read the whole story here

This actually happened to me once. Back in January '92, some friends and I went up to Cheaha State Park in North Alabama for a weekend of hiking and tomfoolery. The morning after we arrived there was a knock on the door; it was the park ranger. He told us that a big 'ol snowstorm was headed our way, and if we didn't leave soon, we would be stuck on the mountain for an undetermined period of time. Realizing that we only had enough food for the weekend, no experience with snow whatsover, and the fact that I was starting a new job that Monday, after many beers and careful consideration, we decided to forgo any sort of responsible decision-making, and stay to play in the snow!

Long story short, after we ran out of food, cash and beer, I treated everyone to three meals a day and drinks from the Cheaha mountaintop resteraunt for the bulk of the week on my brand-new first-ever credit card, putting myself deep into debt. I was also promptly fired from my new job as soon as we got back. So, if I could go back and do things differently.... I wouldn't! That was one of the best weeks of my life!!! I REGRET NOTHING!!!!

Walking Dead Finale Preview & Review of New TPB Volume!

Happy Sunday, gang! If you're anything like me, you are waiting with bated breath for tonight's finale of season one of The Walking Dead! Actually, I have to wait until Monday night, 'cause my wife likes to watch it, but cannot retain consciousness long enough to accomodate it's 10PM air time. So therefore, she makes me record it and wait to watch it with her Monday night :-( SO NO SPOILERS!!! And if you haven't heard; since it is the highest rated original program in AMC history, it will indeed be renewed for a second season. No word on when season 2 will premiere, but we'd better not have to wait until next Halloween - that's all I gots to say about that!

Now on to the newest in the source material - I picked up Volume 13; "Too Far Gone" Friday afternoon at Waldenbooks. It picks up with our band of survivors settling in to their cozy new digs with their new friends who are trying to get back to the life they all once knew by creating a new suburbian utopia surrounded by sturdy walls. But is Rick too far jaded by numerous betrayals and attacks and death to ever trust anyone again? Will he eventually let his guard down and enjoy his newfound security? Will he try to overthrow the current community leaders and take over the small town for him and the others?

I won't give anything away, but it's a non-stop rollercoaster ride as usual! Even when nothing is happening, Kirkman has a way of conveying a sense of underlying tension and paranoia, that you are still at the edge of your seat, just waiting for the tranqulic sense of security to be shattered in an instant! As usual, I read through it so quickly, it left me longing for more!

My Dog's a Star!

When we got our Wheaten Terrier back in April '09, we were told that she was part of a littler featured as puppies on "Animal Planet", but we could not find the video and Daisy's previous owner did not have a copy. Luckily, due to the diligent online detective work performed by my oldest son, we now know what our little girl looked like as a wee pup! It's a great informative video on the breed, and a delight for dog lovers of any breed! I can't embed the video, but you can view it here. Daisy is the puppy at the very end frolicking on her back.

This Should be Interesting....

In a new interview to the Guardian, WikiLeaks' Julian Assange has stated that the next batch of classified cable set to be released contains top secret discussions of....... wait for it........it's really big, so wait a little longer....... UFOS!!!!
I'm trying to remain objective until it actually happens, especially after this weeks big NASA release regarding life on other planets (snore). If this does turn out to be the real deal, it will be interesting to see how the government responds. Read the whole article here.

Great Behind The Scenes Shot!

I think my next art piece will be a "They Live" movie poster or something of the sort.

New Stuff!

For all you Nirvana fans out there - Waldenbooks is having a great sale currently, so the other day I picked up this Kurt Cobain coffee-table book called "Cobain Unseen" by "Heavier Than Heaven" author Charles R. Cross, and featuring tons of goodies, such as pull-out recreations of Cobain's childhood artwork, early hand-written drafts of songs, a CD of Kurt reading from his journal and even a "Visible Man" mask! The regularly $35 book was reduced to $5.99, and with a $5 credit on my Borders Rewards card, I got it for $1.25! Not too shabby!!!

In my best "Michael Scott" voice.

The Walking Dead Volume 13 is Now Available!

The Newest collected edition of my favorite comic (and TV show) is now available, and Amazon has it for $10!!! From their product description; "Life in the community is as near as Rick and his group can ever hope to come to life returning to normal. So why is Rick so on edge? Will his behavior spell doom for everyone else? Will they let it get that far?"

I haven't picked it up yet, but I will be making my way to the local Waldenbooks Friday or Saturday to get myself a copy. I'll tell you what I think when I'm done!

CONGRATULATIONS JOHN!!!

Back when I was making custom Mego action figures, I became friends with an absolutely brilliant sculptor and customizer; John Farley of Type 3 Toys. I was surprised to read recently that EMCE Toys was releasing new Universal Monster figures based on the Mego Monster series of the 1970's, with the first two release being Frankenstein and The Wolfman, followed by Dracula and The Mummy. I was even more surprised to read that John Farley was the sculptor of the Wolfman figure! John is a great guy who has worked long an hard for this, and I'm sure that it's just the beginning for him!
