Stephen King's "The Stand" Comic: My Review

I am currently wrapping up the second volume of the comic adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic vision; "The Stand", from Marvel Comics, and all I can say is WOW! Let me start by saying that I have never read the novel, but I have seen the mini-series, so I don't know if my view of the comic would be tainted by inevitably comparing it to the original work, but at least this way, I can view it with fresh eyes with no prejudice. First off, the art is outstanding! Mike Perkins is the perfect choice as the artist for his obvious "Bernie Wrightson-esque" style which is legendary in the horror genre. The storyline moves right along without getting too wrapped up in the individual sub-plots. Reading this comic feels reminiscent to how I feel with a new issue of "The Walking Dead" in that each turn of the page holds a new twist or turn, and you genuinely feel bummed when it is over all too soon and you have to wait until the next issue. 4 out of 4 stars.

  1. The Stand is my favorite book! Whenever we come to visit you guys I gotta read the comics!

  2. Yeah, I think you'd really like it!
