First of all, allow me to apologize to my good friend and guest blogger, Tim Gagnon for seeing this without him. I'm sorry Tim, my folks really wanted to see it! Anyway, lets start with the bad; it is slow in some parts, and I felt some scenes went on a little longer than necessary; I know it was set up to convey a building sense of tension and apprehension, but it dragged out a little bit for my tastes. Also, I really like watching BJ Novak on "The Office", and would have liked to see more screen time for him. Other than that, I have no further complaints!
Now for the good; Brad Pitt is simply FANTASTIC!! I am not a huge fan, but as far as I'm concerned, his stock just shot through the roof after seeing his riveting performance as the brutal, yet hilarious southern military commander of the Nazi-mutilating Basterds; Lt. Aldo Raine. Also, I didn't even know he was in it, but Mike Myers has a smaller, yet memorable role as British
General Ed Fenech. But it's Christopher Waltz's performance as the slimy SS Officer Col. Hans Landa that really steals the show. The movie is definitely up to the Tarantino standards that we expect; excessive violence, quirky & strange characters, over-the-top gore, and memorable dialogue. Overall, I give it 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
